ATTENTION: TOWN OF HOLLAND RESIDENTS
and ANY CONCERNED CITIZENS
There will be a Public Hearing, hosted by the Department of Natural Resources, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., concerning Brown County’s request to exceed the contamination limit by up to 10 times the current DNR standards, on “beneficial use” soils used at the South Brown County Landfill, located in the Town of Holland. Brown County hopes to use this contaminated soil as “beneficial” use product, such as in berms, roads, daily cover, or stockpiling for future use. This means that these contaminated soils would not be handled as a covered waste product, as they are currently required to be. The Town raised several concerns about Brown County’s request – especially concerns about the unknown human health and environmental impacts of the request and, therefore, requested this hearing to express its opposition to the proposal.
You are encouraged to stop in at the Town Hall, 1293 Holland Road, Greenleaf, during the time indicated above, to express your opinion on the proposal. Those who are unable to attend are further invited to provide written comment to the DNR. Information about the process for submitting written comments will be provided at the time of the hearing.
The Town Board will also be hosting a short informational meeting at the Town Hall beginning at 1:00 p.m. on November 4, 2025 to provide residents with additional information prior to the hearing.
